Novak Djokovic is once again the best tennis player in the world after winning his first match at the 2023 US Open. He used to be the top player, but a young guy named Carlos Alcaraz took his spot after beating him in the Wimbledon final. Now, Djokovic is back on top. He played really well in his first game in New York, beating Alexandre Muller from France. Djokovic is going to play against Bernabe Zapata from Spain in the next round. If Djokovic wins the whole tournament, it will be his 24th big tennis win, which would tie a record.

Last year, Alcaraz won the US Open because Djokovic couldn’t play. He wasn’t allowed to because he didn’t get the COVID-19 vaccine. Both Djokovic and Alcaraz are the best players in this tournament, so they won’t play against each other until the final match, if they both get there. No matter what happens, Djokovic is going to be the world’s number one tennis player for a record 390 weeks.
